Ben Böhmer's 'Faithless' strips his sound down to one voice

The Berlin producer's new single features Erin LeCount and is taken from his next album, 'Bloom', out via Ninja Tune.

Berlin-based producer Ben Böhmer, releasing music since 2014, follows 2023’s ‘The Sun’ with ‘Faithless’, out via Ninja Tune on 27 September 2024, and brings in Erin LeCount on vocals.

Her voice sits at the center of it. Böhmer’s productions usually build a wide, ambient bed and let a texture carry the feeling; here the vocal does that work directly, and the record marks a real departure from his signature sound.

‘Faithless’ is taken from ‘Bloom’, Böhmer’s next album for Ninja Tune, a label he joined in 2023.

His 2019 debut ‘Breathing’ landed on Anjunadeep and has since passed fifty million streams. That kind of number tends to fix a sound in place. Böhmer has spent the years since testing that idea outside the studio, too. The clearest example is a Cercle set filmed entirely from a hot air balloon three thousand feet above the Turkish desert. It passed ten million views within six months and ranks among the platform’s most watched broadcasts.

Handing a whole track over to one voice is a strange move for a producer who just staged something that large in the air. It suggests he trusts the smaller gesture just as much.

Ninja Tune’s recent signings include the likes of Jayda G, Julianna Barwick and Bronson, a spread that says a lot about the label’s range and little about Böhmer’s specifically.

‘Faithless’ is out now.
