Solomun's 'Nobody Is Not Loved' lands nearly 12 years after his debut

Bosnian-German producer Solomun has spent most of his life behind the decks, and nearly twelve years after his 2009 debut, ‘Dance Baby,’ he’s finally back with a second album, ‘Nobody Is Not Loved,’ out 28 May as the first release on his own NINL imprint.

Touring stalled through the pandemic, and the sudden gap gave Solomun room to finish an album that had been years in the making. It also opened doors to collaborators a heavy touring schedule usually doesn’t allow.

Jamie Foxx, the actor whose own hits include ‘Gold Digger’ with Kanye West, turns up on ‘Ocean,’ and his vocal turn pulls the track toward something softer and more romantic. That’s a shift from the rough, urban-leaning sound Solomun favors elsewhere on the record, and it’s an unlikely pairing on paper. ‘Ocean’ landed on NINL on 7 May.

Elsewhere the album moves across a wider range of textures than Solomun’s club sets usually let on, more a family tree of his influences than one sound. ‘Home,’ the record’s first single, had already been out for a while.

The title predates the record: Solomun found the phrase ‘Nobody Is Not Loved’ as an inscription years before he’d started building the album around it.
