Shimza and Elderbrook reunite for "Falling" on Helix Records
Shimza's Afro-tech pull meets Elderbrook's restraint on a Helix Records single carrying real weight behind it.
Some collaborations don’t need an introduction at all.
Shimza and Elderbrook have reunited on “Falling,” delivered via Helix Records, and the single sits right at the intersection of emotional weight and forward motion. Elderbrook’s vocal cuts through the arrangement with real restraint. It doesn’t just sit on top of the rhythm, it forms a dialogue with it, verse after verse, until the two are almost impossible to tell apart.
Afro-tech runs through everything Shimza makes, and he’s built his name on it, working with names like Rachel Chinouriri, Aloe Blacc, and Louie Vega along the way. He also founded Kunye, the label and event series that’s become a platform for African electronic music on a global stage. A now-legendary back-to-back set with Black Coffee sits among its landmark moments, alongside shows that have run from Johannesburg to London. His sets for Boiler Room and Cercle have circulated widely too, building a reputation as one of South Africa’s most significant electronic exports.
Helix Records, whose roster also includes Kaleena Zanders, Ross Quinn, and Grand Bleu, put the single out.
“Falling” arrived on January 16th.
