RÜFÜS DU SOL Follow Up 'Alive' With 'Next To Me'
Lindqvist calls it a rare, purely sweet love song for a band whose music usually carries darker undertones.
RÜFÜS DU SOL released ‘Next to Me’ on 11 August 2021 via Rose Avenue/Reprise. It’s a single that follows ‘Alive,’ their previous outing on the label.
The song started as little more than an idea worked out in the desert, something Lindqvist, George and Hunt didn’t properly finish until six months later, holed up in their Los Angeles studio turning it into the track that’s out now. It’s quite different from how it began.
“We decided we wanted this to be a simple love song, which is rare of us to do, to create something purely sweet without juxtaposing that with the raw, dark emotions on the other side,” Lindqvist said.
The track leans close to ‘No Place,’ off the band’s ‘Solace’ album, in both its chords and its lyrical register, another entry in the gentler lane RÜFÜS DU SOL step into now and then. This one just commits to it more fully than most.
RÜFÜS DU SOL have been releasing music since 2011, and on Rose Avenue/Reprise specifically since 2018.
