RÜFÜS DU SOL end a three-year wait for new music with 'Music is Better'
Their first original song since 2021's Surrender nods to a house classic and lands weeks before their only live date this year.
Stardust (the trio behind 1998’s ‘Music Sounds Better With You’) gets a quiet nod in the title of RÜFÜS DU SOL’s new single, ‘Music is Better.’
The song lands on Rose Avenue/Reprise on 21 June.
It lived on stage first. RÜFÜS DU SOL played it during their headline DJ set at Coachella earlier this year, then spent the weeks after teasing studio clips of it taking shape, before it reappeared live again at Lightning in a Bottle, well before today’s release. It’s their first new original material since 2021’s Surrender.
A remixes collection followed Surrender a year later, but this counts as the band’s first piece of new original music since then. The long-awaited single leans into familiar emotional ground for the band, warmth, closeness, the pull of staying connected to someone, and it grew out of a looser creative process than the last record’s finished, deliberate sound.
It lands weeks before the trio’s only live show of the year, a headline set at Portola Festival in San Francisco on 28 September. On record, it’s roomier and more upbeat than anything on Surrender.
