Monolink shares What You Running From

Monolink follows ‘The Silence’ with a new single called ‘What You Running From’, which lands on Embassy One, the label he’s called home since 2017.

‘The Beauty Of It All’ was the prior release; ‘What You Running From’ arrived on Embassy One on 21 August.

Synths bend and swirl through the track, circling a percussion line that locks into something close to hypnotic. Underneath it all sits Monolink’s voice, bittersweet in the way it usually is on his records, carrying more weight than the groove around it lets on, right up until it pulls a listener onto the floor.

He’s spent years building a reputation as one of the more distinctive voices in the genre, which is what this one leans on even while it reaches for something new, the kind of record that still sounds like him. There’s room in it to dance and to feel something at the same time, the sort of single that lets a listener hear a piece of themselves in it.
