Massano opens his first Afterlife release with the jagged riff of System
The British producer's four-track debut for the label closes on a 2022 remaster of an earlier cut.
System marks Massano’s first release on Tale Of Us’ Afterlife label, following Symbolism, the record before it in his catalogue.
The four-track EP that carries it, In My System EP, leans into a similarly wistful, solemn mood across the board. The opening track sets that tone straight away with a rough-edged riff, a dark undertow of bass and a melody built to raise the hair on your arms; that mood carries through all four cuts, not just the opener.
The EP’s highlight, by most accounts, is Massano’s rework of Drown, a collaboration originally credited to Øostil and Juan Hansen, the producers behind the original. His version runs the longest of the four tracks, stretching past seven minutes. It closes out with The Feeling, a 2022 remaster of an earlier Massano cut that leans hard into the label’s own house style.
Afterlife put the whole EP out on 15 April 2022.
