Chris Avantgarde and Kevin de Vries reunite for 'Killa' on Experts Only

Kevin de Vries, a name most people tracking melodic techno’s peak-time end already know, has paired again with Chris Avantgarde for ‘Killa,’ out now on John Summit’s Experts Only.

Not their first time working together. There’s an ease to how the record sits, the kind that usually only shows up once two producers have already learned how the other one builds a track. It runs the length of the record, not just the opening bars.

The track rides a four-on-the-floor pulse built around assertive bass and metallic percussion, an arrangement that announces itself as a peak-time festival slot before anyone tells you what it is. Nothing about it is quiet. It doesn’t ease in.

De Vries didn’t guest on this one. He co-created it, a different credit from a feature verse or a remix pass, and it shows in the way the track sounds built, start to finish, not stitched together from separate sessions.

Experts Only is Summit’s own label, which makes ‘Killa’ something close to rare on the imprint: a record that isn’t his. It’s a single track, five and a half minutes long, with no companion mixes attached to it.
