Cassian remakes ICEHOUSE's 'Great Southern Land' on Rose Avenue
The engineer behind RÜFÜS DU SOL steps out with a remake of ICEHOUSE's 80s classic, a decade after he first dreamed it up.
Cassian teamed up with RÜFÜS DU SOL as their audio engineer the better part of a decade ago, and went on to become the first artist signed to the Grammy-winning trio’s own Rose Avenue Records.
His remake of ‘Great Southern Land,’ the ICEHOUSE hit that soundtracked Australian radio back in the 80s, is out now via that same label. He had wanted to make his own version for ten years before finally reaching out, and once Iva Davies and ICEHOUSE gave their approval, Cassian spent the past year quietly working through the stems, calling it the greatest honor of his career so far. It runs at 124 beats per minute.
Sydney-raised and now based in Los Angeles, Cassian’s 2020 debut album, LAPS, marked the start of a solo run that’s kept building since. Earlier in 2023, he remixed Jimi Jules’ ‘My City’s On Fire’ with an assist from Anyma. Great Southern Land doesn’t carry an outside feature the way the Jimi Jules remix did.
Goldenvoice has tapped Cassian for both weekends of Coachella this year.
