Argy makes his first appearance on Tale of Us' Afterlife with Tataki
The two-track set pairs a looped vocal on the title cut with reversed, haunting vocals on the flip side, Magic Order.
Argy, releasing music since 2005, joins Tale of Us’ Afterlife label for the first time with a two-track release called Tataki.
Tataki follows Chronographic, his prior release, and it lands on a roster whose other recent signings include KAS:ST. Afterlife’s reputation precedes it, and landing there isn’t a small thing for a producer with Argy’s history behind him.
Argy’s reputation as a versatile stylist runs ahead of him too, and this release leans into that range across its two tracks without repeating a single idea twice. It doesn’t settle into one register and doesn’t try to.
The release’s second half, Magic Order, is built on reversed vocals that come across haunting, running that treatment the full distance and never easing out of it, which is what gives it its weight as it builds toward a forceful close. It plays as the moodier of the pair.
Tataki itself leans on a looped vocal sample laid over thick, mystical atmosphere, worked with the same dexterity that shows up throughout the whole record. Technical, confident, and the clearer of the two tracks to imagine landing in a peak-time set.
