Ellie Goulding's Hypnotized debuted live before it ever hit streaming
The Sphere residency had already staged the track's visual centerpiece before the studio version reached listeners anywhere else.
Anyma and Ellie Goulding’s Hypnotized is out via Anyma/Interscope Records, cut from the 15-track album The End Of Genesys.
The track’s visual has already had a life beyond streaming. It’s featured throughout Anyma’s ongoing residency at Sphere in Las Vegas, also called The End of Genesys.
During one of those residency shows, Ellie Goulding joined Anyma on stage as a guest. It marked the first time Hypnotized was performed live, inside a room built for spectacle on a scale most tracks never get near.
The residency’s guest list has run wide across the run of shows. FKA Twigs, Sevdaliza and Grimes have all made appearances there, among others, on a stage that keeps pulling in names from well outside the usual dance floor.
Grimes turns up twice in this story. She’s credited on Taratata too, elsewhere on the same album. Same album, different stage.
Ellie’s vocal takes the track somewhere heavier than the instrumental alone would reach, immersive and emotionally direct, doing real work on top of the arrangement.
What’s on record is the compact version of something built for a room a lot bigger than most of the places people will actually end up hearing it for the first time.
