Innellea remixes Stephan Bodzin's 'Boavista'

Stephan Bodzin has built most of his reputation on a stage, in live sets people still talk about years after seeing them, and he’s spent the last six of those years away from the album format entirely. That ends on 8 October. ‘Boavista’ is the title track of a seventeen-track record landing on Herzblut Recordings, and it’s the first thing he’s let out of it.

The last album was 2015. Six years is a long stretch to leave between records for a producer whose live show never came off the road, and the wait hasn’t done a thing except make the October date harder to ignore. Seventeen tracks, and the first one out of the gate is ‘Boavista’.

The track’s calm and finely built, melodic techno with its eyes fixed somewhere well ahead of it. Innellea has already taken it apart. That ‘Arp Attachment’ version drives a hard pulse through the middle of the original and piles industrial analogue gear and dirty bass on top of it, which sounds like it ought to bury whatever was underneath, and somehow it doesn’t.
