Solomun has been recycling love since 2011
The fourth in the series takes Change's original apart and rebuilds it. What began as a personal habit is now a label.
Solomun started Love Recycled in 2011 as a private habit, a way of working through the club records that had shaped him.
It’s a label now.
That’s the change worth noting, and it happened quietly. What began as one producer reimagining the classics that defined modern club culture has turned into an imprint with a stated position: respectful reinterpretation over nostalgia, which sounds like a small distinction until you’ve heard what most people do to a record they love.
‘Love Recycled 4’ arrived on 27 June and there’s a Change record underneath it. He strips the original back to its vocal refrain and the roll of its bassline. Then he rebuilds it from the inside, adding harmonic turns the original never reached for and a melodic counterpoint that lifts a vocal hook already doing most of the emotional work.
What comes out carries a groove out of the 1980s into a room in 2025 without ever sounding like a costume, which is the trick the series rests on. It’s also why it lasted long enough to turn into a business.
Other artists are meant to follow him onto it. They’ll be digging the way he’s been digging for over a decade.
