Booka Shade Push Their YARUBA Alias Forward With 'EP Four'

The revived side project follows 'EP Three' with a three-track release built on 'Siren' and 'Supernatural.'

Booka Shade’s YARUBA project has a new release, ‘EP Four,’ out now on the duo’s own label, Blaufield Music.

‘Siren’ opens the three-track EP, a spiraling cut riding surging synths into a climbing tension built for a packed, peak-hour room. ‘Supernatural’ closes the EP out. Where ‘Siren’ pushes forward, ‘Supernatural’ pulls back into something hypnotic and acid-heavy, drawing on both house and techno’s melodic side without settling fully into either, and it never lets go of the EP’s momentum along the way.

YARUBA first launched in the mid-2010s. It was reignited earlier this year during a hiatus from the Booka Shade project, giving the German duo a separate outlet to work in. ‘EP Four’ follows ‘EP Three,’ which first reintroduced the alias’s slick, floor-focused sound, and this record pushes that same direction further, the duo finding fresh angles on familiar ground.
